volcano, caldera, extinct volcano, interesting place
Approximate site of Mount Tehama, a massive stratovolcano which once stood upwards of 11,000 feet and whose summit collapsed shortly before the birth of present-day Mount Lassen (approximately 35,000 years ago). Tehama's dying gasps can be seen today in the thermal features of Bumpass Hell and Sulphur Works. Mount Lassen's cone now sits on what would have been Tehama's northern flank.
