An unusual station in Cornwall, located on the Looe Valley Line from Liskeard to Looe. Originally, the Looe branch terminated at a place called Moorswater, where the Liskeard and Caradon railway also terminated, in west Liskerd, but this proved inconvenient due to the lack of a mainline connection. A horseshoe loop was built, bringing trains from Moorswater, around, beneath the Cornish main line and then either joining it towards St Austell and Truro or pulling into a bay platform. A station was built here at Coombe Junction.
These days, Coombe railway station is rarely stopped at by trains which reverse here, though freight trains still pass through to Moorswater (now just a depot). The Liskeard and Caradon railway closed long before the Beeching Axe, which nearly closed the Looe branch.
