railway junction

Originally, there used to be a very complex crossing here which served as a junction between the East Coast Main Line and many suburban trains. These departed from platforms were on the site of the current car park. The metro service has made these suburban services redundant, and the crossing has been reduced to what it is today. The trains heading southbound go straight over the towering High Level Bridge.
