There are two operating depots, at Poplar and Beckton, both with maintenance workshops and extensive open-air stabling sidings. The Poplar depot is alongside the north side of the Stratford line east of the station, while the Beckton depot is to the east of the line on a long spur north-east of Gallions Reach station, and is only visible in the distance from the line. The small diesel locomotives used for track maintenance tasks are normally visible at Poplar depot. Between 2005-6 Beckton depot received extensions and upgrades, including more sidings and improved signalling.
