The Children Emergency Hospital Grigore Alexandrescu is the oldest children's hospital in Romania and the Balcans, being founded by Alexandru Dimitrie Ghica around 1857. The main building was erected in 1886, being the first stable location of the children's hospital. Other buildings were added along the time, the hospital growing to be the largest dedicated to children healthcare in Romania.
