A very crowded island. You can find varieties of marine products on this island and it is also known as the seaweeds capital and it is also good for diving where you can see big coral reefs.
Dawahon is a densely populated tiny little island in the vicinity of Hingotanan, Bien Unido, Bohol but is geographically part of Bato, Southern Leyte in the Eastern Visayas Region. The island shares the abundance of a marine product with the island of Hingotanan, whom by the most gracious act of God, are blessed with coral reefs that host a perfect environment for the farming and production of this phenomenon called SEAWEEDS that come in different varieties like agar-agar, cottonii, carrageenan and spinosum.
Though this island is part of the provincial boundaries of Southern Leyte, most of its original settlers were from the island of Hingotanan, about ten nautical miles southwest of its location.
The exodus of some Hingotanan folks to Dawahon which were mostly fishermen at a certain time several decades ago, initiated a temporary human habitation in the island due to its proximity to a very fertile fishing ground, the Dawahon Reefs where this island is also naturally contiguous. Going in and out to go fishing with just an outrigger by then, was more easy and convenient from Dawahon than from Hingotanan. The proximity of Dawahon to this fishing ground was the main reason for most of these people to stay in the island for good.
