  • East Godavari District lies in between 16º 30’ to 18°.00 N latitude and 81º 30’ to 82º 30’ E longitude and occupies a geographical area of 10,818 Sq.Kms. The District flourishes with lands of fertile soils, good rain fall and balance climatic conditions and possesses all the natures hand works of perennial rivers, mountains, forests and also sea coast. The District is enriched by huge water resources of River Godavari and big streams like Yeleru, Suddagedda, Pampa and Thandava. 150 Kms of Delta coastal line is existing in the Eastern sea board of India with minor ports at Kakinada and Vodarevu. The most important event that contributed for the prosperity of the District was the construction of anicut across River Godavari at Dowlaiswaram by the British Engineer Sir Arthur Cotton during 1847 – 1852 which promoted the irrigation and agriculture and made the District granary of the State.
