Here was one of the most important English monasteries. The land was divided up for large houses and these were replaced with industrial premises and smaller houses. Excavations have revealed parts of the plan. The only visible evidence above ground is half of a gate hinge in Grange Walk, which formed the entrance to an outer enclosure of the abbey.
