Site of the Virginia & Truckee Railroad's single-stall engine house, turntable and servicing facilities constructed in 1871. Passengers from points east and west arrived in Reno at the Central Pacific (later Southern Pacific) train station downtown to transfer to V&T trains to Carson City and Virginia City. The V&T main line crossed the Truckee River at this point to head south through the city along Holcomb Ave.
