The current headquarters for the US Air Force Weather Agency, the lead military meteorology center of the United States Air Force, Building D is the home to elements of the 1st and 2nd Weather Group who compile, analyze and distribute comprehensive weather databases of forecast, climatological, and space weather.

Building D itself has a long and historically significant history, as during the Second World War it was the the site of an aircraft plant operated by the Glenn L. Martin Company. Initially producing B-26 Marauders for the war effort, in 1944 the factory switched to the dedicated production of the B-29 Superfortress bomber, 531 of which would be built here before the end of hostilities and the cessation of the production lines in September of 1945. Included among these 531 aircraft were 65 "Silverplate" B-29's, which were heavily modified B-29 variants designed to carry and deploy atomic weapons. Two of these aircraft; the Enola Gay and Bockscar, would go into the history books as the first and second aircraft to drop atomic bombs during wartime on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August of 1945.

In WWII, this was a Martin aircraft factory, engaged in producing B-29s. The Enola Gay was built here.
