metro station, building with disabled access
Archway tube station is the busiest station on the Barnet Branch of the Northern Line. There is a concourse and ticket office in the purpose built modern building adjacent archway tower. The main entrance is off Junction Road with a side entrance under the rear of the Archway Tower. Currently there are plans to provide a lift for disabled access etc with works commecing in 2008.
Originally Archway Station was called Highgate station and was the terminal station for this branch of the Northern Line. The line was extended to the present Highgate Station where the Northern Line took over the local railway line from Kings Cross via Finsbury Park to High Barnet and Mill Hill. The layout still shows the station was formerly a terminus.
