Penang Port handles some of the largest cruise vessels in the world at Swettenham Pier on Penang Island. At present, Swettenham Pier has a linear berth of 366 metres in length and an alongside depth of 9.5 metres ACD.
Penang Port plans to redevelop Swettenham Pier into an international cruise terminal to cater for larger cruise vessels. The proposed 450 metre long t-shaped berth will be able to handle vessels carrying more than 2,000 passengers. Land-based facilities to be provided under this Swettenham Pier redevelopment project will include hotels, shopping outlets, and handicraft shops.
To complement Swettenham Pier, Penang Port will also be involved in the construction of a public marina at Church Street Pier. Once completed, the marina will be capable of accommodating 90 boats and yachts ranging between 10 to 40 metres in length.
