i am native of visnupuram presently staying at Bhoosastha krupa behind state bank of travancore, cape road,suchindram. i belong to sasthancoil akam family we are the heriditory poojaries of Lord BHOOSASTHA Temple of Vishnupuramo.Lord Bhoosastha the benevolent deity is SWAYAMBU.The temple is more than 750 years old. The story goes like this.

The temple is surrounded by paddy fields Approximately 750years back whenm a farmer was ploughing the field he felt as if the plough isgoing over a piece of rock or stone. He did not bother and continued ploughing the field. By the time he finished ploughing to his horror he found the colour of thewater inthe field had totally turned into red. He got scared and reported the matter to the land lord. He narrated the happenings to land lord who then decided todo a DEIVAPRASNAM next day, he had a dream the same night Lord Bhoosastha appeared along with HIS two consorts Poorna devi and Pushkala devi and informed the land lord that He had appeared as Swayambu in that paddy field and asked him to construct a small temple there and get one of HIS devotee who was staying in a far off village between Trivandrum and Quilon. Next morning the gentleman found a piece of rockwith a fresh wound projecting from the earth in the middle of his field, he constructed a small temple and send a bullock cart to the far off village to get the devotee. On reaching that village the cart driver met a devoted man enquiring from differerent cart drivers about a place near suchindram where Lord Bhoosastha had come as Swayambu, allof them replid in the negative. When asked by this cart driver the devotee informed that he had a dream few days back wherein Lord Bhoosastha appeared in his dream and told him to come and do pooja in BHOOSASTHA temple where He had appeared as Swayambu. The davotee boarded the cart with his entire family and shifted to this location for offering poojato Lord Bhoosastha. That was my 14th generation grandfather Poojas offered have typical keralite touch giving more importance to so called shuddam, aacharam and recitation of sahasranama archanas morning and evenings L ORD bhoosastha is so benevolent that nobodyever gone backwithout their wish fulfilled May the BLESSING OF LORD BHOOSASTHA be bestowed on you all for a long happy and prosperous life

My father is from vishnupuram village. His name is Krishnan. He is no more. Recently we visited the temple and had the darshan. very happy to join this community.
