392-foot, 34-story International-style office building completed in 1972. Designed by Leo Kornblath, it was one of the first modern post-war office towers to rise in the Times Square area. Intertech Corporation acquired the building which had fallen on hard times in 1985 and dramatically transformed the 34-story, half-million square foot space with a $3.5M renovation, renaming it Times Square Plaza at 1500 Broadway. The tower now houses a prestigious roster of entertainment and media companies.
The 1500 Broadway building is host to ABC Studios and Times Square Studios since 1985. Times Square Studios is a television studio located in Times Square in New York City, New York. The studio is best known as the home of ABC's Good Morning America. ABC leases of 75,000 square feet over the first four floors. ABC's signage includes a giant video screen and news zipper. It had previously been the only major Times Square property without such adornment.
At the south end of the west facade on Broadway, there are two large video boards above the ground floor. At the north end there is a double zipper band above the ground floor, undulating and wrapping around the northwest corner, and a much larger, undulating zipper band above the 2nd floor, which has bands of black windows in black metal frames, canted and slanting inward at the tops. Behind and above is the curtain wall of the 7-story base, composed of black steel and dark-tinted windows. The south facade has six bays, and the west facade spans nine. The base is angled to follow Broadway; above, the rectangular tower is set back and aligned to the regular street grid. There are two additional video boards atop the base at the north end along Broadway, the northern one curved; as well as a 2-sided board with a rounded corner on the south part of the base. On the east facade of the tower, the center section projects out and ends below the top few floors. The north and south facades have black metal vents for mechanical equipment at the 15th floor, and all four facades have rows of vents at the mechanical floor topping the building. The ground floor is occupied by Times Square Studios, Jollibee restaurant, a Starbucks coffee, Citizen Watch, and Brooklyn USA The Finer Diner.
The third floor was used as a filming location in White Collar S01 E04 "Flip of the Coin" when Peter Burke meets with Alisha Teagan at the fictional headquarters of the World News Network. Views can be seen through the panoramic windows of the Paramount Building across the street.
