Khar Turan National Park

Khar Turan National Park (Persian: پارک ملی خارتوران) is the second largest reserve in Iran, southeast of Shahrud, Semnan province, with an area of 1.4 million ha. Because of its large size and difficult desert situation, most of its species were able to save themselves against poachers in modern times.
The area has one of the richest diversities in its mammal species in Iran, and has the largest population of onager(Asian Wild Ass) in Iran as well as a good number of gazelles, wild sheep, wild goat. Khar Turan is also home to some 10-15 rare Asiatic Cheetah, also known as Iranian Cheetah. It is a rare critically endangered subspecies of the Cheetah found only in Iran which is now on the verge of extinction, as only 60 to 100 are estimated to exist.
