park, bridge
site of the first permanent bridge to span the Mississippi River at any point along its entire length.
The footings of the three earliest bridges at the site (1855, 1876, 1891) have been excavated, preserved and interpreted, with small-scale bridges allowing visitor access to the tops of these footings. Each historic footing has been protected with a poured concrete cap into which has been sandblasted a simplified image of the bridge it once supported and the date of original construction
