Completed in 1996, this 30-storey building was constructed at a cost of RM80 million. It was built above the existing Weld Supermarket Complex, which remained in operation throughout the construction period. Due to its location, the Weld is in itself a landmark among many city dwellers especially the older generation. The building is now holds a boutique shopping mall with more than 35 specialty stores. It has 450 parking bays in three basement levels. Strategically located at Jalan Raja Chulan, the builing is surrounded by hotels and tourist attractions. Currently (as of 2010), this building is owned by Great Eastern Life Assurance (M) Berhad (www.lifeisgreat.com.my/) which bought it for RM150 million in 2003.

  • I remember accompanying my Mom grocery-shopping at Welds Supermarket during the mid-1960's when the facility consisted of 2 floors. There was a delightful western-style restaurant upstairs that served marvelous T-bone steaks where we went for dinners on the weekends.
