Whitestone (Nuneaton)

United Kingdom / England / Attleborough / Nuneaton
 suburb, electoral ward, invisible

Whitestone is a suburban area of Nuneaton located approximately 2 miles (3 km) south-east of the town centre. It is named after an old milestone or guidepost known as the White Stone. This stone can still be seen in front of the area's main shopping arcade on Lutterworth Road. Today, the area is almost exclusively residential, although in years gone by Whitestone was home to a number of small quarries. While the oldest (and much of the most prestigious) housing stock dates from the 1920s and 1930s, the vast majority of properties in Whitestone are the result of extensive housing developments from the 1960s onwards.
