This is actually the steepest street in Portland. SW College drive, between 14th and 16th. 31.4% grade.
It is one way - downhill - because when it was first paved, most cars on the road couldn't make it up.

  • Isn't 15 usually between 14 and 16?
  • yes it is, but because of the topography 15th does not intersect College St. The grade of the street between 14th and 16th avenues is indeed ~32%...45 meters elevation gain in only 137 meters..very tough to cycle up!
  • I used to deliver mail on that street, when it snowed, it was impossible to drive down. Had to park and (slide down it to deliver to boxes)
  • i wonder if the stretch of hall above 14th, and upper hall from the hall/upper hall junction to upper hall/college/16th intersection might be steeper.. how does one research this?
