Built in 1904, the one-lane Paces Ferry Bridge replaced Hardy Pace's ferry across the Chattahoochee River. In 1974, a modern two-lane bridge was built immediately south, and vehicle traffic rerouted. The bridge was renamed for Hermione "Hermi" Alexander after she was killed at this location by a drunk driver in 1983.

The original bridge remained open to foot traffic until 2006, when it was closed due to safety concerns. Hermi's husband, Cecil Alexander, waged a successful campaign to repair it and in 2010 Hermi's Bridge re-opened to pedestrian traffic.
