This is an electrified rail yard for New Jersey Transit passenger trains of the Northeast Corridor Line. This yard was built around 2005 in the former classification basin of the former Pennsylvania Railroad/Conrail Morrisville freight yard.

The yard was built to eliminate the complex shunting operations which had to take place in the Trenton terminal area during peak hours. The Trenton terminal was becoming a severe bottleneck due to many train movements fouling the main line as well as a severe lack of proper storage space for the NJTransit and SEPTA trainsets.

The NJ Transit Morrisville yard makes use of the freight flyover at MORRIS interlocking so NJT trains can enter the NEC without tying up all 4 mainline tracks. The trains travel up and into the new electrified passenger yard where there is also space for maintenance. Future plans call for a Morrisville station, but this is currently tied up with questions on which state should fund it.
