Dykeneuk was designed by Sir Herbert Baker in 1904, and is situated on Alice Road. The name means “stone house” in Welsh, and is his only building in Kensington.

It is a good example of Sir Herbert’s style, with stone walls to blend in with the surrounding landscape, stone roof tiles, which are a distinctive feature of all his Johannesburg homes, and really tall red brick chimneys.

The house was designed with horses and not cars in mind, and features stables, a carriage house, a mounting block and tying poles
