Rimatara is the westernmost inhabited island in the Austral Islands of French Polynesia.

Rimatara is a circular volcanic plateau surrounded by a reef. Ir consists of the island of Rimatara, and the Maria Islets. Villages include Mutuaura, Anapoto, and Amaru (The capital). Rimatara has about 930 residents.
