Mahatma Society, started in 1965, is spread over 72 acres of N.A.Land.Actually Mahatma Society was exclusively meant for 416 indepedent bunglows.Being one of the oldest bungalow type housing society in this part of Kothrud it became well known and popular and because of it's popularity in the past the whole Gandhi Bhavan area was also known (as unwritten rule) as the Mahatma Society and all the other societies in the surrounding region followed the rule.
Consisting of an auditorium with badminton and table tennis facilities for the Members,Garden with children's park,Rudra-Ganesh Mandir,Maruti-Mandir,Commercial Complex,basketball court,jogging track,small field for sports,celebration of all important festivals,cultural and other programmes,tight security; alert,educated,informed,friendly and active members and efficient governing body,Mahatma Society has become the No.1 Bungalow Society in Pune and Western Maharashtra.The society takes up all issues faced by the members in a very receptive and cooperative way to help solve individual and general issues and problems.The cleaning and lifting of garbage system adopted in the society also featured as an article in some newspapers to enlighten others how to prevent garbage from lying around creating unclean,dirty and unhygienic conditions affecting the health of the citizens and the people.

  • It is April and the Mahatma Society is full of flowers. Look at the trees and you can find the gulmohars in bloom red,yellow;the katchampas-white and pink and yellowish;the Rusty shield Bearers with yellowish flowers and brownish bottoms;the magenta,yellow,purple bougainvilleas;and a host of others.The mangoes are there on some trees.The big lucky bird with brown and black wings and red eyes is seen and heard.The cuckoos are cooing.A variety of other birds are frolicking around.It is the spring season merging in to the summer.Rakesh Kumar J,M.Sc.LLB
