Alexanderplatz is a large open square and public transport hub in the city centre of Berlin. Berliners often call it simply Alex, referring to a larger neighborhood stretching from Mollstraße in the northeast to Spandauer Straße and the City Hall in the southwest. Alex was the former modern centre of communist East Berlin, since the reunification it is being redeveloped.
