Tematangi Atoll

French Polynesia / Tuamotu-Gambier / Fangatau /
 island, atoll

Tematangi (also Tematangui) is an atoll in the Tuamotu Archipelago islands of French Polynesia. There were 53 inhabitants as of the 2000 census, most living in the main village of Tuihana.

The interior lagoon is completely enclosed by the fringing reef, with no navigable strait. Tematangi Atoll appears in some maps as "Bligh's Lagoon Island" after Capt. William Bligh, who visited the Atoll in 1826.

The grid-like pattern of the trees on the islands is the result of coconut palm replanting for Copra harvesting, a practice common across numerous islands in French Polynesia in the late 19th century.
