Lahaina, HIA census-designated place located in Maui County, Hawai'i. As of the 2000 Census, the CDP had a resident population of 9,118, though during the heavy tourist seasons, the population can swell to nearly 40,000 people.
Lahaina served as capital of the Kingdom of the Hawaiian Islands from 1820 to 1845 under Kamehameha III. Site of the first Christian mission on the islands.
