Mokpo National University, located on the southwestern coast of Korea, is taking off for a new millennium based on the potential energy with which the University has grown to be a significant educational institution in South Korea since its foundation in 1946. Mokpo National University (MNU) consists of six colleges, the Graduate School, the Graduate School of Business Administration and Public Administration, the Graduate School of Education, the Graduate School of Industry and Technology, twenty four institutes and research centers, and sixteen auxiliary organizations including the libraries and a museum, which is housed in the recently constructed Cultural Center.
The southwestern coast of Korea where the University is located has been an important place for the overseas exchanges between Korea, Japan and China. Mokpo National University, as a future-oriented university to lead this era on the southwest coast of Korea, has the best educational environment and highly qualified faculty members. Aiming for a world-class university, Mokpo National University devotes all its energies to heightening the international competitiveness through a consumer-oriented educational system, the expansion of the research supporting system to assist the professors' research and the reinforcement of cooperation between industries and the University.
As a way of achieving this goal, Mokpo National University has set up sister relationships with thirteen universities from six different countries. These universities include the University of Southern Mississippi in the United States, Yantai University in China, Nagoya University in Japan, Deakin University in Australia, Feng Chia University in Taiwan, and Almaty Abai State University in Kazakstan.
These relationships were established in order to cultivate the spirit of international cooperation. This is also a great opportunity for professors and students to be part of an annual exchange program between MNU and these universities. In addition, MNU has continuously exchanged academic information through academic symposiums.
Through academic exchanges along with research and high-quality education, Mokpo National University is doing its best to produce top-quality graduates who can lead knowledge-based industrial societies in this age of information and globalization.
The climate of Mokpo is cold in the winter; the temperature often falls below 0¡E and there is occasional snowfall. It is hot and rainy in the summer with temperatures sometimes exceeding 30¡E. The University has two campuses. The main campus is in Muan, just outside of Mokpo, and the other campus is located within the city of Mokpo.
