Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) was formed in 1940 by the merger of the Armour Institute of Technology (founded in 1893) and Lewis Institute (founded in 1895). Also known as Illinois Tech, IIT is renowned for its Colleges of Archecture and Engineering.

Most of the campus structures at IIT were designed by renowned architect, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, one of the geniuses behind the Modernist movement. In 2003, Rem Koolhaas's McCormick Tribune Campus Center and Helmut Jahn's State Street Village opened on IIT's campus. For fans of Modern and Post-Modern Architecture, IIT is not to be missed.
