Carmel-by-the-Sea

Incorporated in 1916.
As of the 2010 census, the town had a total population of 3,722. It developed as an artist colony in the early 20th century and is known for having many quirks. One is that there are no street addresses. As a result, the US Postal Service refuses to deliver to individual buildings, so all mail must be collected from the post office.

  • Actor/film director Clint Eastwood was one-time mayor of Carmel. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clint_Eastwood Town ordnances, for businesses, are strict, you won't find any neon lights in this community. Even nation-wide retailers that normally have large red lettering signs have to abide by strict sign ordnances. Retail signs are smaller, and of beige color, in this community. It's a beautiful place!
