Contains the Triumphal Arch of the Sergii. Erected in the 1st-century BC by Salvia Postuma Sergi who built this arch in honour of three male members of her family who had fought and died at the battle of Actium.
Famous Irish writer, James Joyce, taught English in the yellow art-deco building dominating the square. In memory of that, a statue of him sitting on the cafe terrace is placed right in front of it.
