Ben Het Special Forces Camp--photos

This is the abandoned airfield at Ben Het, which was featured in a 11 July 1969 TIME magazine article titled The Lesson of Ben Het.

Ben Het was converted from a US 5th Special Forces Group (Abn) CIDG camp (A-244) to an ARVN Ranger camp (95th Ranger Battalion) on 31 December 1970.

I inspected the outpost on 27 September 2007, almost 41 years after I was originally stationed in this region, i.e., Kontum Province. (From Kontum, guide Huynh Nguyen Do holds aloft an empty sandbag.)

Ben Het, BTW, is essentially a cluster of 3 hills; according to topographic maps, the elevation of the highest hill is 751 meters, or 2463 feet.

The views in all direction are magnificent. See it!

I love it. Thanks so much for guiding visitors like me to understand the significance of such a place. It's lovely, too.
