In 1906 the Land Credit Bank building in Eclectic style, with elements of Art Nouveau was inaugurated, after the previous buildings dating to the 15th-16th century, with Baroque phases of construction were demolished between 1904-1905. The first pharmacy in Sibiu functioned in one of the old houses existing on this location, having been opened in 1494.
The property was nationalized during the communist period, accommodating various administrative and financial institutions. After 1990 these institutions were withdrawn one by one.
Starting with 2006 the building houses the City Hall.
On May 9, 2019, the building hosted the informal Summit of Heads of State or Government of the European Union - www.consilium.europa.eu/en/meetings/european-council/20...
