The name Chitradurga came from Chitrakaldurga(the shapes of the rocks).According to 2001 census, the population of the city was 1,517,896. Chitradurga fort is linked with Mahabharatha story. Hidamba rakshasa lived in this fort. The famous Madakari Nayaka ruled this fort. When Hyder Ali soldiers attacked the fort, Obavva killed hundreds of them hitting by Onake. The kindi where those soldeirs try to enter the fort is called as Obavvana Kindi. Veera Vanithe Obavva(Onake Obavva) is the famous legend of Kannada Nadu. The famous movie Naagara Haavu by Puttanna Kanagal shooted in this place. Famous People: T.R.Subba Rao(TaRaSu),S.Nijalingappa,Madakari Nayaka,Onake Obbavva. Place to visit: Chitradurga Kote, Chandravalli, Jogimatti, Murugharajendra Mata, Adumalleshwara,Davalappana Gudda.
