A relatively new neighbourhood compared to Mawrada and was only populated in the 1950s and early 1960s. Up until the 1990s, the Western part of the neighbourhood used to be occupied by a huge population of hawks: sometimes nesting at the lighting towers of the Mourouda football stadium, the hawks presence led to the nickname (حي الصقور) meaning "Neighbourhood of Hawks".
