Pennsylvania Trail of History: French Azilum was built in the 1790's by French who sought a safe refuge. Both Haitian and European French resided in this rustic town, but over the decades that followed most gradually moved away to other locations and the town and its buildings faded into history. Most of the peninsula where the town once stood is now farmland, but an historic home (LaPorte House) remains, built by one of the families descended from these French settlers.
