Estadio Malvinas Argentinas (Mendoza District)

Argentina / Mendoza / Mendoza District
World Cup football stadium, football / soccer stadium, football premier league

The Estadio Malvinas Argentinas is a stadium, in the city of Mendoza, Argentina, at General San Martín Park.

It was built in 1976 in preparation for the 1978 World Cup. It has capacity for 45,000 spectators, although it doesn't provide seating for all of them, not many Argentine stadiums do.
The stadium used to be named Ciudad de Mendoza ("City of Mendoza"), but was later renamed after the events of the Falklands War of 1982. The new name reflects Argentina's claims of sovereignty over the Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas in Spanish), and could be translated as "Argentine Falklands Stadium".
