Vadakkumthala Puthanangady family complex is situated in front of St. Mary's Church, Narakkal, Kochi, Kerala, India, with church records from circa 1600 AD. The forefathers of this prominant ancient family contributed much to the development of painting, photography, music , drama and cinema of Kerala. The cinema "NIRMALA" (1948), the first film with music sound track with actors singing was produced by P. J Cherian of Puthanangady family.
