bar, pub / public house
The unusual name, The Bleeding Horse, goes back to the year 1649, when, after the Battle of Rathmines a wounded horse wandered into a tavern. This made such an impression on the owner that he memorialised the event by naming his premises 'The Bleeding Horse'. The pub is mentioned in the 'Eumaeus' episode of Ulysses when the down on his luck Corley asks who Bloom is as he has seen him in the Bleeding Horse.
