This Memorial, on which is engraved the name of every U.S. Navy Aircraft Carrier from USS Langley CV-1 to USS John C. Stennis CVN-74, was erected by the Aircraft Carrier Memorial Association and funded by donations from the many friends of the Navy and former Carrier Shipmates.

The Memorial was installed on February 17, 1993, with full Military Honors and over 1,000 Carrier veterans and friends attending.

A life-size statue of a Sailor was added on VJ-Day 1995 and a similar figure of a Naval Aviator was added on June 26, 1996. A final dedication was held on September 6, 1996, to celebrate the completion of this tribute to those who have served in the past and to those dedicated men and women who continue to serve on them today.
