A Metro Transit facility, built in 1990 and used as a center for bus operations and maintenance. This is the fourth facility on this site. The Minneapolis, Lyndale & Minnetonka railway built shops and a roundhouse here in 1884. The company was taken over by the Minneapolis Street Railway (which became Twin City Rapid Transit) in 1887. This facility was torn down to make way for TCRT's 31st Street Shops in 1898, a streetcar maintenance facility. In 1912, that building was replaced with Nicollet Station, a streetcar garage and operations center. It became a bus garage when streetcar service ended in 1954, and was torn down in the late 1980s to make way for the current building.
