This 60 year old great peepal tree adjacent to Phase-IV puja ground was one of the oldest and biggest trees in golf green. This was cut down on 16th July 2006 on the pretext that its roots were harming the adjacent building. This led to a confrontation between the nearby residents and an NGO which was formed to prevent tree cutting. The news was published in Anandabazar Patrika on 18.7.2006

Didn't know then...the NGO is a front organization of C.P.I(M). And the tree was cut with the permission from WBPCB as it was damaging the adjacent building | ||||
