Coolie Parha is a lower middle class residential area/colony mainly consists of Muslims family living in small houses. The area is thickly populated with no proper drainage and water supply system. Most of the residents try to get their wards educated, no matter primary or higher schooling but they try. Their income is quite low. They live their life simple and work hard to earn their daily livelihood.
It is just neighbored to the famous Katihar Railway Junction that connects the city notably to Nepal on its Eastern North and to the rest of India across. The religious and cultural harmony has been exemplary through the past years. People are loving, caring and are concerned with each other.
My family lives here. Although, I was born in Chittagong, Bangladesh, the then East Pakistan, yet love this place as this city and mohallah, Coolie Paraha have seen my brought up here. My family members and a few close relatives are still living in this small colony. My father used to be a tailor master and so my younger brother. However, my youngest brother got his higher education in Engineering and working as Electronics Engineer and posted at a reputable power station. My sister is married there and lives with her family in Munger, famous district of Bihar
I am living away from my family, in Pakistan, and miss them all very much. I still remember the days when I used to roam around the Mangal Bazar, Railway station, the cinemas, the Bata Chowk and of course the Katihar Thana where I had visted to report as foreign national. I remember the bribe of Rs10/- that I gave to the head muharrar (the repoter) to facilitate me in registering in his rojnamcha (the peport register). I miss the Masjid where I used to offer my namaz during my stay. Due to general economic condition of Muslims in Katihar, the Masjid is not in very good shape yet surviving because of the philanthropists of Katihar. I miss this city Katihar in general and Coolie parha in particular. Janey Kaha'n gaey wo din...
I really miss all those. I wish the relationship between the two countries become so friendly that no one miss his beloved places and the loved ones. Love you Katihar, love you Coolie parha and love you all people of Katihar who have welcomed me whenever I visited the place. Those people have no hatred, no discrimination with regard to creed, cast, religion, dressing or language. They are simply fabulous.
