The light's official name is "Head Harbour Lightstation," a.k.a., East Quoddy Light.
The light tower is white, painted with a red cross of Saint George.
Reaching the light on foot requires waiting until low water, taking a series of ladders, a bridge between islets, and ocean-floor paths. It can be slippery and hazardous, and one must leave before the tide returns -- or risk being stranded for six hours! Swimming is out of the question, due to extremely fast and cold currents that would sweep a swimmer into the Bay of Fundy or into Head Harbour Passage. |
