This is a famous watercourse, made so by the renowned Dame Edna Everidge (sp?), and sadly mistreated by the current occupants of Melbourne.
Litter from stormwater runnoff provides the backdrop to the daily struggle of native and introduced wildlife. This little patch is relatively nice, I even saw a sad little, oily cormorant there. Good luck, fellow.
