Yaviza

Panama / Darien / Yaviza /
 town, rainforest

Indian town in Darién Province on the confluence of the Rios Chico and Chucunaque. This place marks the north-western end of the Darién Gap of the Pan-American Highway.

Paving and extending Pan-Americana is not in Panama's interest. It would only compete with the canal and import unrest from the south. If it's ever done, it would be Colombia's initiative.

  • end of the line
  • they better don't finish it If you still want to have some tropical forest in darien!
  • The road would have to be 50 miles wide to not have any Tropical forest left. Save your Tree hunger propaganda for the next Earth First meeting.
  • You tree huggin' fool. They don't finish it because Panama doesn't want any incoming terrorism (guerrillas not fundamentalist Arabs) or drug traffic from nearby Colombia. Have a nice day.
  • That's right, Kapitalist Khairul. No way to build a road to somewhere full of problems. The only purpose such a road could have is to bring them problems from the southern neighbors.
