Camp Parks Radiation Facility (San Ramon, California)

Site of radiation experiments on animals, humans, bunkers, and crops between 1959 and 1983. Some experiments included testing cobalt-60 on sheep and growing crops in plutonium-spiked soil.

Ten numbered buildings were associated with the test facility:

Building 130 - Process Radioactive Soil Samplers
Building 131 - Hot Cells and Laboratory
Building 305 - Greenhouse Laboratory/Beta Radiation Exposure of Plants
Building 310 - Office and Headquarters
Building 311 - Surface Roughness Experiments
Building 312 - Plant Storage/Uptake Studies
Building 331 - Shop and Change House/Personnel Decontamination Station
Buildings 533, 553, and 570 - Radioactive Fallout Behavior Experiments

The last three buildings were transferred to the Department of Justice in 1972 and demolished to make way for the construction of Federal Correction Institution, Dublin. Several other test areas were associated with the site: the Plant Root Uptake Area between buildings 331 and 332, Explosive Test Pond, Surface Roughness Area, Gamma Radiation Range, Animal Farm, Fallout Shelter, and Land Target Complexes.
