Main Hospital (Bowen) Building

Established in 1895 as the Illinois asylum for the insane, The Bowen Building functioned as the main structure of the facility. This building stands out among it's surroundings, and tends to "appear" - rather ominously - when approaching from the east.

Today, this is one of Illinois' most popular hot spots for ghost hunters and curious teens, but unfortunately it is off limits to visitors, and anyone breaking in to the building will be prosecuted.

The future of this building is unknown, but there have been talks of restoring it and turning it into a hotel, where visitors will enjoy it's history as an early 20th century insane asylum.
