P'yŏngyang University of Railways (Pyongyang(P'yŏngyang))


P'yŏngyang University of Railways was opened on 1 September 1959 as the Pyongyang University of Transport. When it expanded its engineering curriculum and expanded its technical campus in 1969, it took its current name. There are two major faculties or colleges--the Faculty of Railway Mechanical Engineering and the Faculty of Railway Construction. There are also smaller colleges that coordinate education programs with administrative and labor employees in the Ministry of Railways and railway factories in the DPRK. There are two research institutes, one for research and the other for doctoral candidates. 70% of the faculty holds a doctorate or advanced degree or has been given People's Awards and Merits by the state. The Pyongyang University of Railways has international agreements and exchange programs with the Beijing University of Transport and the Russian Omsk University of Transport.
