Großer Garten (Great Garden) (Dresden)

Germany / Sachsen / Dresden

The Great Garden (Großer Garten) park, which is located in the southwest of the city center, is Dresden's biggest and most beautiful park. The future elector Johann Georg III. commissioned in 1676 the creation of a representative park in front of the town gates. In 1683, the palace was built in an early Baroque style. The park and palace soon became the scene of electoral representation.

Nowadays, the park with its wide-ranging gardens is one of Dresden's most popular recovery resorts. Several open-air stages invite the visitor to cultural events, in the palace one can attend concerts, and every now and then festive balls and fireworks take place in the park.
